July 20, 2008

Anna woke me up at 10:15 this morning. She didn't fall asleep until 1:30am! That's what we get for napping so long yesterday! She was just wired for sound all the way up until she zonked out.
We went downstairs after both of us got dressed. I picked out a cute little sundress with the matching panty covers for her to wear. Here she is hamming it up in the outfit "'Eppy" chose.

I fixed us apples and cinnamon oatmeal for breakfast, but after a few bites Anna wouldn't stay in her seat so I decided to let her mother deal with her. I mean, that's one of the perks of being an aunt, right? You can give the Munchkins back when they don't behave! I had her until 1:30am and then she woke me up this morning, so I feel like I've more than fulfilled my auntly duty, don't you? I came back upstairs to the craft room to get throught some of the 90 emails awaiting my attention.

Mom called upstairs to let me know it was time to leave to get the crabs. We also stopped by Redner's for a few grocery items while we were out.

We were going to sit out on the deck under the mosquito net, but I convinced Mom it was too hot and humid. I could barely catch my breath when we got out of the car. We set up the kitchen table with a few layers of newspaper and ate crabs for a couple hours.

Sarah cam eupstairs from the rec room where she and the kids had been napping. She told us Anna had just fallen asleep after watching Bambi all the way through. Sarah sat down to have crabs with us and it wasn't long before Caleb started throwing and dropping his food all over the floor.

While Caleb was doing all that nonsense, I went down to wake Anna. She'd already been asleep for at least one and a half hours and we didn't want her do a repeat performance of last night. I only had to say her name once and she was awake. I saw some Animal Crackers on the coffee table and asked if she wanted one. After I put it in her mouth, she took my hand as if to hold it to go up the steps. Instead, she brough my hand up to her mouth and bit my index finger! I'm not talking about a little nip, either; I had tooth marks for twenty minutes!

I told her that was bad, I was mad at her, and she needed to march her little butt upstairs to her mommy. I showed Mom and Sarah the marks on my knuckle. Sarah told Anna it was very bad and asked her if she told me "sorry." Anna just stuck a finger in her mouth and hid behind Sarah's leg so I couldn't see her.

I went back up to the craft room to read the rest of my email and was joined about half an hour later by a certain little girl. She apologized and kissed my knuckle to make it better and gave me a big hug and kiss. Then I turned Shrek on for her and she had fun jumping around on the air mattress while I tried to type emails. So anyone that received an email full of typos: It was Anna's fault!

She started playing Peek-a-Boo with me by hiding under "nite-nite." PEEK-A-BOO! Anna sees you! She thought it was hilarious to come from under the blanket and "suprise" me. She loves having her picture taken and popped out from under nite-nite a couple times until I got just the right picture.
Then she decided she wanted her tweezers and scrap fabric. While she was looking in my stitching bag for them, she came across my sunglasses and said "'elp." She wanted me to put them on her and thought it was neat when they stayed on top of her head just like I wear them all the time. Once again, she posed for a picture. She wanted to sew on Mount Coot-tha again, but I was trying to get through all my email first.
When this happened, she erupted in peals of laughter. Apparently it was side-splittingly funny for the glasses to fall in front of her head instead of backwards when I blew in her face like she was doing to me last night.

Sarah and the kids went back to their house around 6pm. It was so peaceful here once they were gone! Don't get me wrong, I adore the kids, but there's no such thing as quietude with them around. When you live by yourself (Uncle Wes is almost always in his den downstairs) and spend most of your time stitching, it stays pretty quiet. It's that exact reason I don't have kids of my own! I enjoy peace and quiet.

  1. I'm glad you had such a good time but now get to relax in peace and quiet. Nothing like being an aunt; you can always send them back to their parents. I remember those days quite well. I wouldn't trade my four for all the money in the world but I do so enjoy my time alone when I do get it.

  4. Except for the finger biting, sounds like a fun-tastic weekend. It's always noisy and chaotic around my house when the kids are there (or it least it was when they were younger), and I rarely get anything done or can keep anything clean. It's just the way it is with kiddos. After they leave, the house seems so empty and I have to get used to the quietness again.
