August 28, 2008

For a day where I had planned on doing absolutely nothing, alot sure happpened!

First, I stitched on Golden Puppy (Baby Kasey) today. I did it mostly one-handed because I still didn't want to use my right arm too much following Tuesday's surgery. It was slow going, but it was progress nonetheless!

I wasn't happy with the choices in the fridge and pantry so I went to the grocery store this afternoon. It was not the best idea I ever had; the shoulder strap of the seatbelt made my perma-cath hurt more. I picked up some great salad fixin's from the salad bar and some sour cream from the dairy case. I plan on having the salad for lunch and the sour cream will go perfectly with my BBQ Fritos.

When I pulled into my spot in front of the carport I saw a bouquet of flowers waiting for me. My friend Daniel sent me a "Thinking of You" bouquet of lilies and roses that are almost purple! I have to admit that I was really cheered up when I saw these! The note that accompanied the arrangement said to "Stop to smell the roses," a reminder to not rush through life, but to enjoy each day.

Daniel, thank you! They're beautiful and it was so very thoughtful of you!

After putting the bouquet inside, I was walking with Kasey at the end of the driveway when my neighbor's youngest daughter drove by. She was looking for their two English Setters who had apparently opened the storm door to the house and run off. I told Casey C that I had just gotten home and didn't see them on the way in, so they were still in the neighborhood. We live on a dead-end road, so I knew the dogs were close. Casey drove up to the other end of the neighborhood and I walked back to my house where I grabbed a leash and a container of cat treats and then headed back outside. I figured I'd shake the treats and attract the puppy and then her father would follow her once she was on the leash. I knew from experience that I didn't have a chance of catching their adult Engy.

Casey came back to their house and said she still didn't see the dogs anywhere. We were both concerned because usually when Rory, the father, gets loose, he hangs around my yard or theirs. For us not to see them at all was very strange. Casey told me she was going to wait at the house for the dogs to come back so I took Kasey Kay and walked down the steps to their dock on the Creek.

My thinking was that if the dogs hadn't been seen in anyone's yard, then they were down there somewhere. I called Rory and Daisy and didn't hear anything until, after just a minute or two, Casey yelled down the hill that the dogs had come to the side door and were both inside, safe and sound! I was so relieved! They heard me calling them and came home!

When I got back to my house after walking up the steps from the Creek, my legs were like Jell-O; I was so tired and weak! Now I really couldn't do anything, even if I wanted to! Thank goodness for cable television and the DVR!

I spoke to Carol B later this evening and we are going to meet for lunch at the Macaroni Grill on Saturday. Then she is going to drive us up to The Stitching Post so we can do some stash shopping. She suggested the outing because she knows I'm going to go stir crazy at home alone but I can't drive myself any significant distance. The other Carol from our stitching group may be joining us if she doesn't have a birthday party to go to. I will finally get to meet Carol B's son, Ray! I've heard all about his antics at school and at Cub Scout Camp and now I will be able to see first hand! It's defintely going to be a fun day; I'm really looking forward to it! I just hope I don't fall asleep on them!

The evening ended with me doing nothing...just like I planned. I used my arm so much earlier today that I couldn't lift it any more. It just wouldn't work. I even had to use the USB mouse for my laptop because I couldn't reach my arm to the touchpad-mouse I usually use. At least now I know there is a point at which my arm, after ten surgeries, has said "I quit!" I will be very careful in future to make sure I don't take it to that point ever again!
