After finally falling asleep at 3am, I was awakened at 4:00 by Kasey's barking. I didn't know it until later, but she went upstairs and saw the guest room door closed and panicked. She thought I was in the bedroom, even though I took her down to the basement with me when I went to bed. Sarah and Anna had the guest room for Christmas Eve and Caleb was in his crib in the craft room on the other side of the landing. In her panic, Kasey rushed into the craft room because the door was cracked and woke Caleb up with her barking. Mom was just starting to doze off when she heard him crying and went to get him. When I woke up and heard her, I called Kasey and she came downstairs with me. Mom and Caleb spent the rest of the night in the livingroom recliner.
Sarah and Anna came downstairs at 7:30 and woke me up, which was a good thing. I was supposed to get up at 7:00 to walk the Gruesome Twosome (Shandi & Nemo, the Salukis) next door but didn't have an alarm. I quickly went upstairs and grabbed my coat and drove next door before there was an accident in the house. Luckily the Salukis were in a good mood and we went for a nice walk in the frigid cold! Yes, I'm being sarcastic! I could name a hundred places I'd rather be than walking Salukis in the cold!
I got back to Mom's around 8:00am and we started passing out the presents. Mom wanted to take a video of the little ones opening their gifts so all the "big kids" had to wait. I helped Anna with her gifts while Sarah helped Caleb. Caleb was so funny because after about 6 or 7 presents he said "All done!" and walked away swinging his arms. He'd had enough! Mommy had to open the rest of his gifts!I kept Anna on track by saying "Next!" after each gift, but when she opened her pack of Little Mermaid panties, all bets were off! "I got Ar-el panties NaNaNa!" "I got Ar-el panties Mama!" "I got Ar-el panties Beppy!" She had to show them to everyone and then she wanted me to open them for her. We told her she could take them home and open them, but she had more presents to open. I'd say "Next!" and Anna would say "Next!" and grab another gift. She did alot better than I thought she would. I was expecting her to do what Caleb did, but she opened both huge bins of gifts. She got alot of clothes from Mom & Dad because Mom ran into a REALLY good sale at KMart one day. Anna was pretty excited about everything, but Ariel is her favorite of the Disney Princesses and she's all about the Princesses at 3 1/2 years of age.
This is Ben's gift that was inside Treesa's bra cup. I found some very funny boxers at the Big Dogs outlet in Nag's Head, NC when I went there with Sue V back in May. He got a good laugh out of the Daschund and "I have a long weiner" on his boxers. I also bought a pair for Uncle Wes and Ian, each with a different saying. Wes's said "Life is like a box of Jalepenos" on the front and "What you do today will burn your ass tomorrow!" on the back. Ian's had different beers all over them and "So many choices, so little time."
I took this picture of Ian and Treesa as he was getting ready to leave. Since Treesa had a leak and no one had the inclination to find and repair it, we decided to let Ian have her for target practice. His Christmas present to himself was a new .22 rifle and he and Sara were heading over to her dad's house for their Christmas. Her dad lives out in the country, so Ian shoots over there. As he walked out the door, Ian nuzzled Treesa's neck and said "mmm mmm mmm! You're coming with ME!" ROFL! Yes, he has a twisted mind!
To back up a little, there's some history I must impart to you about the blowup doll:
About 15 years ago, our friend Mary Ann asked Ian and I what we wanted for Christmas. My answer was always the same; Mary Ann gives me the new Budweiser Holiday stein featuring the Clydesdales. That particular year, Ian said "a life-size Michael Jackson blow-up doll with realistic body cavities" just to be ridiculous. Mac told him that until she found one, he wasn't going to get another Christmas present from her.
Well, there were going to be children around and Treesa had realistic body cavities, including a gaping mouth, so I took a gift tag and wrote "To: Ian From: Mac Monster" and taped it over her yaw. When he saw it, he said "What the hell! That's not Michael Jackson!" Mary Ann almost fell out of her chair laughing when I told her what I did and Ian's reaction.
It was very quiet after Bre's mom picked her up and Ian and Sara left. Mom and Anna conked out on the loveseat while Sarah and Caleb went into the basement. Caleb is not the most cheerful little boy when he wakes up from a nap, let me tell you!We had a very tasty dinner dinner, but Anna and Caleb didn't want to eat anything. Mom finally got Anna to eat her sweet potatoes, turkey, and carrots, but she wouldn't touch her broccoli or stuffing. Caleb, on the other hand, picked up his entire plate and gave it to Sarah. She made him some chicken nuggets but he only ate a couple of them. He was more interested in eating the ketchup. What is it about ketchup? Anna used to do the same thing. She wouldn't eat anything without it and sometimes ate it all by itself. Is that another stage they go through, like eating glue in first grade?
By the time everyone was done dinner, all nerves were shattered. Everyone's concentration was on getting Sarah's car loaded and getting her and the kids home. Dad, Ben, and Matt went over to put all the gifts into Sarah's house and Ben and Matt headed back to Glen Burnie from there. No one ate any dessert and it remained untouched throughout the weekend. I went to bed around 6:30 because I was just exhausted after having less than four hours of sleep the night before.
As you can tell, I didn't even make it to Grandma's. This is the first time I wasn't there on Christmas day for at least ten years. It was upsetting, but there was no way I was going to be able to drive the hour-plus there and back today. It just wasn't going to happen! Next year, though, I'm going there in the morning and Mom's in the afternoon. And I'm not spending the night! Mom and Dad said they wouldn't do the same thing next year. Sarah and the kids will have to stay at their house on Christmas Eve and come over later Christmas Day like everyone else does. It was just too much!
